The writer argues that Beowulf was a pagan hero, not a Christian, despite his claims to the contrary. There are many pagan images in the poem, including references to blood drinking and sorcery. In addition, Beowulf insists that the treasure be buried with him. If he were a Christian, earthly treasure would have meant nothing to him. Thus, the writer argues that Beowulf was actually a pagan.
