An 8 page paper discussing Amtrak's present
position. By all accounts, the existence of a national railway network appears to be a
good thing. We as Americans have believed that for more than a century now, but time
for Amtrak to prove the value of that belief is running out. Currently and under
Congressional mandate, Amtrak is working feverishly to become a self-sustaining,
profit-generating business by the end of 2002. It has not yet reached its goal, but
indications are that it has good, solid chances of arriving there. Whether the train will be
on time is the greatest question at present. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
