This 10 page report discusses two of Hollywood’s
great movie musical directors in terms of their skills of
mise-en-scène, their camera technique, and their effective
editing. Some of the most enduring and endearing movies of all
time were directed by Vincente Minnelli and Stanley Donen.
Minnelli’s “An American in Paris” (1951), “Brigadoon” (1954)
created an exotic world where anything can happen to the average
American “fella”and with a background of lush color and
spontaneous song and dance. Stanley Donen’s “Seven Brides for
Seven Brothers” (1954) and “Pajama Game” (1957) set the stage for
his many romantic comedies that would follow such as “Funny Face”
(1957), “Damn Yankees” (1958), “Two for the Road” (1967) and even
episodes for the popular 1980’s television series “Moonlighting.”
Bibliography lists 4 sources.
