A 6 page paper which discusses the subject of
insanity in "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The paper addresses
whether the woman in the story was realistically going insane, suffering from a serious
mental condition, or merely reacting to her prescribed treatment for what was probably
only depression, which is not a form of insanity. The paper finds that she was quite likely
forced into a state of insanity because she was denied all forms of intellectual and social
stimulation that would help her use her creativity and imagination for purposes other than
going insane. Bibliography lists 10 additional sources.
