A 20 page overview of polio and a new manifestation of its symptoms in the form of post polio syndrome. The author identifies numerous potential causes of PPS. These include immune-mediated responses, hormone deficiencies, and environmental toxins as well as numerous other potential correlates By far the most likely cause of PPS, however, is believed to be the loss of motor neurons in recovered muscle tissue as an individual grows older.
