This 6 page report discusses the ways in which
performers become “stars.” Dyer’s theoretical construct is
related to the star-image phenomenon and offers certain primary
aspects of what a star’s image is made of: What the industry puts
out; What the media says; What the star says and does; and what
we (the audience) say and select. Ellen DeGeneres serves as an
excellent example of a contemporary mass media personality who
has made that transition to stardom. Mainstream or non-mainstream
. . . she is an unlikely big star but nonetheless a star.
