This is a 3 page paper discussing the role of nature in Coleridge’s work. Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) wrote during the Romantic Movement under which his prose and poetry took in an understanding of nature which was intrinsically important during his time. His work often explored the many sides of nature including its beauty, power, and sometimes the mental isolation man can feel when removed from nature or when immersed in it. Two works “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” and “Kubla Khan” explore different physical and mental components imposed by nature by Coleridge as the Mariner is punished both physically and mentally in his crime against and disrespect for nature while the obvious respect for the force of natural elements is shown throughout “Kubla Khan”.
Bibliography lists 4 sources.
