A 5 page paper that discusses the theory of states' rights, an argument that began as soon as the Constitution of the United States was drafted. The theory is explained as well as the basis for it. The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions of 1798 and 1799 are used as examples of the theory as is the South Carolina Exposition and Protest. Further, the South Carolina Exposition is used to show why South Carolina believed they could secede from the Union after Lincoln was elected president. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
