This is a 5 page paper discussing the use of Charles Dickens’ “Hard Times” as an historical source. Charles Dickens’ “Hard Times” originally published in serial form in “Household Words” in 1854 takes place in a fictional industrial city called “Coketown, England” during the 1950s. Despite the fact that the name of the town is fictitious, the novel has often been used to describe the industrial, educational and political climate in England during the mid-19th century at the time of the Industrial Revolution. Because of this it is important to examine the accuracy of using this work of fiction as an historical source.
Bibliography lists 5 sources.
