Gillo Pontecorvo's 1965 movie entitled The Battle of Algiers has long been considered a Third World filmatic experience, failing to compete with Steven Spielberg's Hollywood treatment of Schindler's List. The obvious documentary-type style of Pontecorvo's creation detracts from the overall emotional strength that the director was obviously seeking to achieve.
