A 6 page comparison between the film The Bourne Identity (2002) and the 1980 novel of the same name by Robert Ludlum. The writer argues that the screenwriters accomplished the tricky business of adaptation by keeping characterization and certain aspects of the novel, but disregarded the rest of the novel's plot. In so doing, the film pays homage to the novel, but it is not the same story. Consequently, the film is edgier, less cerebral, more action-oriented than the book, which is a formula undoubtedly designed to appeal to today's audiences. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
