This 6 page report discusses
the idea of independent theater and the realization that
“independent” theater evolved from the realization that a great
deal of the art and impact of theater in terms of an expression
of art was not necessarily what would be popular with the general
public and thus, would not necessarily be a profitable venture,
regardless of its artistic merit or the message it had to send.
Theater is an expression of art that presents the vision of its
creator and the talents of its performers. It instructs and
enlightens. It does more than simply tell a story and serves to
present what might be considered by many as radical ideas and
ideals but in a traditional, therefore acceptable, format.
