7 pages in length. The primary difference between maintaining quality through inspection and process control is that one is reactive and the other is proactive, a distinction that can cost a company significant lost revenue. The inspection function of quality is both conventional and outdated, inasmuch as taking a passive approach to maintaining excellence is no longer an option in this globalized world. The reactive nature of inspection is to either 1) conduct routine examination of policy, equipment or personnel based upon a factor of time frame instead of need or 2) respond to an emergency that occurred because functionality was not assessed more frequently and with greater attention paid to subtle cues. Proactivity, by contrast, is akin to preventive medicine by virtue of gathering information from past experience, examining it for trends & changes and applying it as a deterrent rather than waiting for things to go wrong.
