This 5 page report discusses the
viewpoints of Russian filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein and French film
critic and author Andre Bazin. Eisenstein believed that the
overall message or significance of a film should be presented
through “montage” or the construction of brief segments of the
film that reinforce and serve as counterpoints to each other.
Bazin was the consummate realist who focused the majority of his
criticism toward defending realism in nearly every possible
manifestation in a movie. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
