An 8 page overview of the plot and character interactions in this novel by John Kennedy Toole. Notes the parallels between the novel and Toole’s own life emphasizing the importance of the relationship between the fictional character Ignatius Reilley and his mother as well as his long distance relationship with Myrna Minkoff. Disappointed because he had been unable to get “A Confederacy of Dunces” published, Toole committed suicide in 1969 at the young age of 31. After his death, however, the world would finally stand up and take note of a young talent lost. “A Confederacy of Dunces” would become a Pulitzer Prize winner only one year after its initial publication in 1980 and Toole’s name would be etched in history as one of the most memorable yet more obscure authors of his time. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
