A 10 page paper examining Chicago’s newest 5-star hotel. With strikes against it, the Peninsula has prospered since its 2001 opening and recently was named the best hotel not only in Chicago, but in all of the United States. Its direct competition in Chicago is limited to the Four Seasons (in 18th place) and Ritz-Carlton (in 24th and last year’s winner). The purpose here is to assess the question, “Is it that the ‘Urban Sophisticated’ aura and Asian influence of service of the Peninsula Hotel has made it rise above the ‘Old Fashioned’ Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons Hotels in Chicago?” The answer is a resounding “yes.” It provides travelers with more than they expect, and it courts Chicago residents so that they can recommend the Peninsula to those planning to visit Chicago.
