( 7 pp) Bibliography lists 5 sources. This
discussion will center on the psychological
changes that are represented by the Kurt Vonnegut
character, Billy Pilgrim in the 1968 novel,
SlaughterHouse Five. The parts of the character
and the novel are mixed together as much as the
turmoil of one war, and the memories of another.
This is the story of an author remembering his
youthful prisoner of war experiences during the
horrific bombing of Dresden. The city was of no
strategic importance, but the Allies continued to
bomb it - perhaps simply because they could.
The firestorm that consumed the city, also ate
135, 000 souls. We will look at the
psychological shifts of the main character as
he moves through the past and the novel of the
present. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
